The cheapest ways to DIY Halloween decor
By Phil Hornshaw
Halloween is a fun holiday, but it can get expensive. Even cheap costumes can put the hurt on your wallet, and if you’re looking to deck out your front yard, the costs can get seriously jacked up, as well.
But there are some handy ways to reduce your costs, especially if you have a knack with a sewing machine and a hot glue gun. If you’re of the crafty persuasion, making your own Halloween decorations can help you turn your yard into a haunted graveyard on the cheap — especially if you grab the equipment you need from Amazon. We’ve highlighted a few machines that can help you get your decorations made without tapping into your candy budget.
All sewn up
Sewing machines can often be your go-to Halloween tool, for costumes as well as decorations. Amazon offers a variety of sewing machines that can help you get just about any job done, and they come in at a variety of price points, as well. If you’re looking to keep the costs down, check out the Michley LSS-202 Lil’ Sew & Sew Mini 2-Speed Sewing Machine. It’s compact and portable, and with a price of $19, it’s super-affordable, as well.
You’ll also find machines like the Brother LS2125i Everyday Sewing Machine, at $75, and the SINGER 4411 Heavy Duty Sewing Machine, at $180, to provide some variety. And if you’re serious about your crafting sewing machine needs, you might consider the professional-grade Janome Memory Craft Sewing Machine 6500P, which comes in at $1,500.
Everything for craft creations
Outside of sewing, there’s a lot more you can do for Halloween with machines available at Amazon. Whether you need to cut paper or you want to create your own die-cut stickers, you’ll find a lot of items that can help in the creation process.
A great device to start with is the Martha Stewart Crafts Craft Station. It’s an all-in-one craft station that includes backlighting for tracing, blades for paper cutting, and more, at $75.
If die-cutting is something you want to look into, you’ll find quite a few options at Amazon, as well. Try the Cricut Create Machine at $75 for a start, or get something more powerful like the Cricut Expression 2 Electric Cutting Machine, which is bigger and more versatile, and comes in at $180.
There are plenty of other items worth grabbing, too — including a hot glue gun for sticking everything together. There are lots of varieties, like the Surebonder HE-750 Professional High Temp 2 Heater Glue Gun, which is big and packs a large trigger. It has a price tag of $20. Shop around and you’re sure to find what you need at a price that suits you.
