How to Gift Travel, Vacations, or Weekend Trips
You’ve finally found the perfect gift. Travel! If you’re sending someone close to you on a much needed weekend getaway or dream vacation, go beyond wrapping up a travel brochure or airline tickets. Get a little creative and try one of these travel-inspired gift ideas!
At a first glance they look funny, but once the recipient realizes it’s a travel pillow, they’ll get a hint. As soon as they mention they don’t have a trip planned where they can use it, spring the big surprise on them!
A Travel Book
Wrap up a Fodor’s or Lonely Planet guidebook featuring the travel destination. Write a little note in the front cover of the book wishing them a fabulous time on their travels!
Has someone been dropping hints about needing a new carry-on bag or a rolling suitcase? Tuck the trip tickets inside the luggage and when they open it, watch their face light up!
A Bottle of Wine
If the soon-to-be traveler enjoys a glass of Chardonnay or Riesling, pick up a bottle originating from the travel destination. As they open the wine to try a glass, tell them they really should enjoy some straight from the source, then hand over the travel itinerary!
Are you keeping a globe-trotting adventure under wraps? Tease the gift recipient with some cool wall art like maps printed on canvas or three-dimensional cut-outs of specific countries. Tape the tickets to the back of the art so they see them as soon as they go to hang the gift!
Is the traveler a stamp collector? Order stamps online featuring the locales on the travel itinerary, then place the stamps in a small frame. Explain that they need to add them to their collection, since they’re headed to those places very soon!
A Travel Wallet
Ladies love new wallets, so why not pick up a colorful all-in-one that fits everything including a passport, cash and credit cards. Write a special little note revealing the trips plans and tuck it in the ID holder so they see it as soon as they open the wallet. Fossil has travel cases specifically meant for passports.
Now that you have a plan in place, get busy! You should ideally give the gift as far in advance of the trip as possible so the recipient can request time off work, plan for child care and/or pet care and prepare for the trip with a little shopping! But until then, shhhh! Keep the surprise a secret by keeping the details to yourself until the big reveal — then everyone close to the gift recipient can share in the surprise and joy too!
