Treasure Tromp blog explores life’s little treasures and adventures
Nicole was pursuing her Ph.D when she caught the travel bug and created her blog, Treasure Tromp, which explores life’s little treasures and Nicole’s amazing adventures. How she plans a wedding, studies and has time to swim with sharks is beyond us, but we are loving what we’re reading! Meet Nicole …
Where I’m based: I had been living in the Los Angeles area for eight years until I moved to South Africa in June. As much as I miss beautiful California, I’m so excited to be living in Cape Town through December!
How long I’ve been blogging: I started blogging in June 2012.
Blog/business basics: Treasure Tromp started as a way to document my attempts at finding life’s hidden treasures, one adventure at a time. Since moving to South Africa a lot of those adventures include my love of travel, but I also love to make a mess in the kitchen, go for hikes, camp and tackle my 30 by 30 list.
What do you enjoy most about blogging? Blogging has served as an incredible creative outlet, while also pushing me to go out and explore! Exploring, adventuring and traveling have been my main sources of inspiration throughout the blogging process. While I am still inspired by adventuring, my blog is now also a place for me to connect with others while living abroad.
Guilty pleasure: Reality television, especially Big Brother and everything Bravo. So bad but so good. Pair that with a little wine and take-out sushi? Perfect night.
Last thing I bought: Tickets to the Rocking The Daisies music festival just outside of Cape Town.
Who are your style crushes? Kerry Washington for sure. Not only does she look incredible at red carpet events, her character Olivia Pope on Scandal is the best woman on TV!
Tell us about South Africa? South Africa is such a beautiful country! Although I’m experiencing a bit of culture shock, I absolute love living in Cape Town. Besides the amazing natural beauty of South Africa, the country has such a rich history and I learn something new every day. Last weekend I visited Soweto, the largest township area near Jo’burg and took a tour of the house in which Nelson Mandela had lived!
How’s wedding planning? Planning a wedding from another continent is just as tricky as it sounds! I’m so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family members to help while I’m traveling. When I first started planning I had no idea how much fun it would be (thank goodness for pinterest)!
What’s your favorite Brittany Spears song? Excellent question. As much as I love classic Brit Brit, Circus is probably my favorite. Seeing her perform the song for the first time after her cray cray phase … goosebumps. What a comeback!
What’s the next adventure on your list? I’m a big fan of Shark Week (who isn’t) and I currently live pretty close to where a lot of it is filmed, Shark Alley. My fiancé has somehow convinced me that it would be fun to see the sharks up close and personal by jumping in a shark cage in the Great White capital of the world!
