3 tips for pimping out your mancave
By Aimee Heckel
Let’s face it: 90 percent of any couple’s house is the she-cave.
Most likely, Mr. Man did not pick out those crystal wind chimes on the front porch, or the doily on the dining room table. And he probably has never even noticed that the drapery pattern perfectly accentuates the reupholstered Victorian rocking chair.
But he knows which of the 14 remote controls goes to what. He knows a comfortable lounge chair when he falls asleep in one. And he knows how to distinguish a grease stain from a hot wings stain on the wall — not that he knows how it got there.
There is great value in the mancave, for both man and woman. It is a safe and confined place for stinky socks to come off and beef jerky odor to freely flow. Where taxidermy hammerhead shark heads are not only welcomed, but they match the decor.
Here are three ways to beef up your mancave:
1. Find a plethora of neon products, gadgets, signs and games at Themancave.com. Pick your decor by the style of your mancave: sports cave, parlor and game room or garage.
An inflatable beer bucket ($31.99) is on The Man Cave’s top-seller list, which surprises zero people. We’re guessing this isn’t only because the bucket can hold a full case of brewski — but also because it can be deflated and hidden far, far away from guests.
2. The Art of Manliness website offers a variety of helpful tips on decorating the cave. According to this article, man-space decor should always be high quality, comfortable and personal.
A lounge chair is a man-room necessity, the article proclaims, such as the Womb Chair from Design Within Reach.
3. When decorating the walls, taxidermy is always a go. So are vintage maps. Art.com sells a variety of inexpensive vintage re-print world maps.
This antique-inspired wall map is $19.99. Tip: Select the option to frame it (just under $100). Order through ShopAtHome.com and get 6 percent Cash Back.
