3 ways to look your best in a swimsuit (hint: no work-out required)
By Brittany Anas
One of our favorite memes floating around the Internet goes something like this: How to get ready for bikini season. Step 1: Put on bikini. That’s it. That’s all there is to it.
The truth is, the chance of majorly transforming your body by the Memorial Day pool opening date is, well, unlikely.
So here are a few “cheats” to help you look your best in a swimsuit.
- A shift in focus. A new Harris Poll commissioned by The Dailey Method shows that 60 percent of women say improved metal well-being and stress reduction is a key fitness motivator — compared to 20 percent who say the pursuit of a bikini-ready bod is what gets them to the gym. So how about shifting your focus? You’re not required to workout — but let it be something you enjoy. Look at exercise as a part of your daily routine for allover wellness — and the side effect will, of course, be more confidence in your swimsuit. The Dailey Method combines ballet barre work, core condition, strength building and yoga. The other finding: Variety is key. 53 percent of women report getting bored with their fitness regimen and giving it up all together.
- Shirring. Don’t have rock-hard abs? Fake a flat tummy with some shirring on a bathing suit. One pieces — especially the maillot styles — are majorly trending this spring and summer. One of our favorites is this merlot-colored Badgley Mischka Shirred Bandeau Maillot from Nordstrom. Earn up to 12 percent Cash Back on your ShopAtHome.com purchases when you shop at Nordstrom.
- Self-tanner. Get a bronze glow without scorching your skin in the sun. We’re partial to this Clarins Self-Tanning Gel that gets rave reviews from beauty editors. Allure magazine named it the “Best of Beauty Reader’s Choice” award for self-tanners in 2012. The fast-drying gel will give you a quick, streak free bronze that looks like you’ve been sunkissed.
