4 easy, no-bake Fourth of July treats
If you’re doing this whole Fourth of July celebration right, your day might start at the beach or at a patriotic parade. We’re seeing a backyard barbecue thrown in the mix. The grand finale? Relaxing on a blanket and watching a fireworks display light up the night sky.
As we approach the three-day holiday weekend, here are some great (and quick) snack ideas that, like fireworks, will elicit ooh’s and ahh’s wherever you bring them.
Red, white and blue strawberries:
There’s a couple different spins you can take on these strawberries. First, a classic, family-friendly recipe: Melt white chocolate in the microwave (stirring every 30 seconds until it’s smooth). Then, dip the strawberries in the chocolate so they are about two-thirds covered. While the chocolate is still melting, quickly dip the bottom third of the strawberry in blue sprinkles or blue sugar.
For an adults-only version, soak a pound of strawberries in a jar with white rum, or vodka, 24 hours dipping them in the chocolate for a boozy twist on the berry dessert. (Thanks, Frosting and a Smile for the idea!)
What you’ll need:
Strawberries
Melted White Chocolate
Blue Sugar
Optional:
Light rum or vodka.
Star-spangled Fruit Kebabs:
Mother Nature is giving us plenty of inspiration for Fourth of July treats, with plenty of fruits in patriotic colors to choose from. Make an easy and healthy fruit kebab with watermelon and blueberries. Cut your watermelon into pieces that are about 1 inch thick and then use a star-shaped cookie cutter to make watermelon stars. Skewer blueberries on a wooden skewer and then top with one of the watermelon stars.
What you’ll need:
Star-shaped cookie cutter
Blueberries
Watermelon
Skewers
Flag Dessert Tray
Love the combination of sweet-and-salty? You can make a flag-themed dessert tray with sweet berries and salty, yogurt-covered pretzels. It takes little time to arrange, but will look like a work of art once you’ve assembled it. On a serving platter, place a small bowl of blueberries in the top left hand side. Then alternate rows of white-chocolate or yogurt-covered pretzels with red fruits — like cherries, raspberries or strawberries.
Sweet shortcut: Don’t love sweet and salty? Just use whipped cream as the stripes for a bit of a shortcut.
What you’ll need:
Yogurt or white-chocolate covered pretzels
Blueberries
Strawberries
Raspberries
Cherries
Gourmet Ice Cream Sandwiches:
