4 gifts to give yourself on Mother’s Day
By Melissa Brodsky
As a mom, you spend 365 days a year (make that 366 if it’s a leap year) caring for others. Surely, you deserve at least one day that’s all about you. This year, spend Mother’s Day doing some of the things that make you feel good. Of course, this will mean different things to different people, but here are some options to get the ideas flowing:
- Do absolutely nothing. Stay in bed as long as you like, only getting up to use the bathroom and eat. All that nurturing you do sure is tiring! When you do decide to rise, see to it that others prepare your food while you relax with a bubble bath or cuddle up with a good book.
- Spend time with your own mom (or mother figure), without your kids around. Though your mom loves to see her grandkids, Mother’s Day is a good time for adult daughter and mother bonding, too. Get together for a gab session, a spa day or a day trip focused on activities you both love.
- Indulge in your hobby. Many moms find themselves struggling to fit the things they love to do into their busy weeks. Make Mother’s Day your time to do at least a few of the things you always want to do but never have the time to fit in.
- Eat what you want. Often, mom’s taste in food gets pushed aside to accommodate her children’s picky eating or her spouse’s preferences. On this day, make it all about you. Your family members eat their usual fare, but you get to devour your favorites. Whether it’s sushi, seafood or a hearty steak, dig in. Counting calories? Put that aside for this special day.
