by Melissa Brodsky
There are so many reality TV cooking shows on the air these days. Parents and kids have all become armchair chefs and judges. Between Cupcake Wars and Cake Boss, kids are aching for baking.
Here are five free iPhone apps available for kids to cook and bake without supervision — and without the mess.
Pizza Crazy Chef by TabTale
Kids love pizza. This number-one downloaded kids app lets kids virtually create everything from the pizza dough to designing the toppings. When it’s finished baking, box it up and deliver it.
Chinese Food! by Crazy Cats
Wok on over to your mobile device and break out the chopsticks. With this app, kids can fry their own noodles and rice, creating wacky and virtually delicious Chinese food dishes. Have fun creating your own crazy fortune cookies. You can even share your creations in classic Chinese take-out containers. Now, if only you could eat what you create.
Cake Pop Maker by Bake More Cake Maker
Cake pops are very “in” at the moment. Popular at weddings, showers and pretty much everywhere. Learn to digitally make cake pops with Cake Pop Maker. It’s your job to create everything, from beginning to end. This app is popping with more than 4 million people playing this delicious game.
Cotton Candy by Bluebear Technologies
Cotton candy. It brings thoughts of the circus and of carnivals and fairs. And has a tendency to make mouths water like Pavlov’s dogs. With the Cotton Candy app, you can choose your candy sugar, mix it up and spin the cotton candy in the machine. A hungry chef game is also included. You move the device to feed the hungry chef, trying to keep him safe from frog pots.
Pie Maker by Sunstorm Interactive
This fun app allows kids to choose their pie crust and fillings. They mix all the ingredients together, bake and make cyberspace smell delish. There are so many options to choose from in this app AND kids can create a Pie Party complete with a custom set table for when their pies are done baking. There are a couple other games featured with this app, like “top chop” and “food challenge”.
Now the greatest challenge is remembering not to try to eat the screen!
