5 things kids do when parents aren’t looking
by Melissa Brodsky
How many times have you heard yourself saying to your kids, “The minute I turn my back and you ___ (fill in the blank)”? Parents really do need working eyes in the back of the heads for obvious reasons. Our offspring become merry mischief makers.
1. They eat us out of house and home.
If we aren’t in the kitchen being food monitors, say goodbye to that new box of Cheese-Its, cereal, milk and the rest of the groceries you bought…today. And they make a giant mess, to boot.
2. They sneak out of the house, Halloween-ready… and it’s not even Halloween.
Some of our kids put together the wackiest outfits before we even have a chance to notice. How many times have you gotten your child to school, only to realize that the blue pants sticking out from the jacket is part of a Spider-Man costume or that skirt is last year’s ballet recital outfit?
3. They become scientists.
Bathroom product concoctions all over the counter, a blob of toothpaste, a squirt of mouthwash, some liquid soap and any other liquid type products found in a bathroom, all mixed together in a little Dixie cup, leaking all over the bathroom for Mommy to clean up.
Walgreens has everything you need for those scientists, from disaster-proof plastic cups to cleaning supplies to erase the evidence.
4. Wreck-It Ralphs on hyperdrive.
You step into the bathroom for a moment of privacy and suddenly, a large crash is coming from the living room. You rush out to find that ancient Ming Dynasty vase shattered and a child holding a Nerf ball with mock innocence on his face.
Stock up on Gorilla Glue to put back together those precious pieces of art. You could also glue your children’s door shut with it (just a suggestion).
5. Web surfers.
Us parents can’t stand over our kids all day long. So, sometimes they do things that they know we wouldn’t approve of and they can get away with it. For example, visiting adult sites, just to see what all the fuss is about. Or, somehow get onto YouTube without the parental controls set.
Stop into Best Buy — they have all the latest gadgets to keep kids from going where no kid belongs. Also, check the settings on your computer and set the parental controls from there.
