6 pro tips for Cyber Monday shopping
On your (book)marks! Get set! Shop!
Conquer Cyber Monday like a true shopping pro this year, maximizing your savings (while simultaneously polishing off that pumpkin pie, of course).
Whether you’ll be in a turkey coma on Black Friday (darn tryptophan!), want to continue your long-weekend shopping spree, or just prefer the serenity of shopping online as opposed to battling the in-store masses, here are six pro tips for Cyber Monday shopping.
1. Get Cash Back during your Cyber Monday shopping:
The best part of shopping online, aside from the fact that you can do it in your pj’s? You can get paid to shop. Earn Cash Back on your Cyber Monday buys (and, your purchases year-round) when you become a member of ShopAtHome.com. Not only is it free to sign up, but you’ll earn a $10 Cash Back bonus when you do. Once you’re a member, you can earn between 1 percent and 30 percent Cash Back at thousands of stores. Stores pay ShopAtHome.com commission on your purchase, and ShopAtHome.com shares that commission with you. Find top deals and Cash Back offers here.
2. Expand your calendar:
Technically, Cyber Monday falls on Nov. 30 this year. But some stores have already begun offering Cyber Monday-like deals and will be offering some of their Black Friday deals online, too.
At Target, you’ll find a one-day deal every Monday at the store’s “Merry Monday” sale. Walmart is advertising “pre-Black Friday online specials” with markdowns on gadgets, toys, televisions, workout equipment and more. One of the best deals we spotted and that will certainly be put to good use during the holiday baking season? A KitchenAid Classic Stand Mixer that’s marked down by $59. 3. Get social with your fave stores:
Become buddies with your fave retailers by liking them on Facebook, and following them on Instagram and Twitter. Also, sign up for their e-mail lists. (Gmail has a great feature that automatically sorts retailer e-mails into a promotions tab for you). Many stores announce limited time “flash sales” via social media and they unveil sales — like Cyber Monday deals — via e-mail.
4. Make a shopping list and bookmark sites:
Many of the best Cyber Monday deals are limited in supply. Come to your keyboard prepared with your shopping list and a plan. Bookmark the stores you’ll be shopping at and be ready to pounce on the deals. Set up accounts with the stores you know you’ll be shopping at to expedite the check-out process. Also, if you’re eyeing an item that you know (or hope!) will be on sale, try to “reserve” it by placing it in your online cart shortly before the sale starts.
5. Take advantage of free shipping:
Because many stores will be offering free shipping on Cyber Monday, it’s sometimes a good idea to ship directly to the recipient. This is especially a good strategy when you’re exchanging gifts for little ones. (I.e. you’ll wrap the gifts sent to your kids; family and friends wrap the gifts you ship). This way, you eliminate shipping costs sending to family and friends out-of-state and you make sure the gifts arrive in time.
6. Shop safe:
Shop safe by making sure that you’ve installed the proper updates on your antivirus software. Also, the Better Business Bureau recommends shopping with credit cards because it’s easier to dispute charges if you don’t receive an item you purchased. Be sure to only shop on secure wireless networks. Need to shield your computer from viruses and keyloggers looking to steal your identity? Earn up to 50 percent Cash Back on Norton Antivirus software.
