‘Ancient revivals’ trend is like luxury time-traveling
By Aimee Heckel
There are antiques collectors and historians, and then there are the people who live it. People who center their vacations around visiting ancient buildings, seeing first hand preserved artifacts and even experiencing the modern revival of ancient traditions and techniques.
“Ancient revivals” are an emerging travel trend, according to Spafinder.com.
Here are some ways to incorporate yesterday into your vacation tomorrow.
1. Experience an Indian Ayurvedic vacation package. Ayurveda is an ancient wellness and healing practice based in India.
You can find a variety of Ayurvedic health resorts and vacation packages at the Ayurvedic Health Resort page. Book the Beach and Lake resort, on a 20-acre property in India, and find health packages, yoga, meditation, kerala martial arts and ayurveda offerings.
For example, the Panchakarma Chikista process is designed to purify the body and bring it into balance. It include a variety of traditional treatments, plus a massage and medicated bath.
2. Visit a revamped historical building.
The Château de Labourdonnais, a stunning mansion built in 1859 in Mapou, Mauritius, offers guests a taste of the 19th century lifestyle. Walk through the old orchards and gardens.
Visit the distillery for a taste of all-natural fruit products, such as jams, jellies and juices — all with authentic packaging, inspired by the castle itself. (See photo.)
3. Learn about Roman baths. Take tours of the Roman baths in southwest England (where else did you expect, Rome?). We recommend the Twilight Dinner and Tour, which includes a dinner and coffee at the Roman Baths Kitchen, followed by a torchlit tour.
Although you can’t actually bathe in these baths, you can get a special treatment at a spa nearby at the natural thermal spa, Thermae Bath Spa (see photo).
Here, you will find historic spa buildings, naturally warm, mineral-rich waters, steam rooms, a rooftop pool with great views and more than 50 spa treatments. The water here comes from the springs that make the city famous.
