Go bananas: Fruit patterns trending big this summer
Dress and blouse patterns this summer are going bananas. And, cherries, pineapples and grapes, too.
If you’re sensing your wardrobe wants a break from polka dots, stripes and florals, go fruity with your prints instead. This summer, quirky banana prints are especially relevant given the reprisal of Arrested Development and, with it, the Bluth family’s famous frozen banana stand. Of course, cherry prints are flirty and retro. And some of our fave designers are throwing us the equivalent of a fruit salad with a mix of fruits on dresses.
Here are five servings of fruit prints we’re craving. (Yes, following the mighty food pyramid is even more fun when shopping).
Boldest of the bunch banana dress: Wear this banana-printed dress to the zoo and walk through the primate exhibit. We double dog dare you. This graphic printed dress with black piping was recently featured in Seventeen Magazine. Modcloth, $99.99
Front tie cherry blouse: Grab a soda pop and do the twist. This cherry printed blouse is flirty and vintage and pairs great with a bright red lipstick and some black pants. If you want to make a statement, pattern mix with some black and white polka dot pants or skirt. Forever 21, 15.80
Pineapple print purse: This tote is a talker. The blue-and-tan Mossimo handbag has funky lil’ pineapple prints on it, making it perfect for a trip to the farmer’s market. Target is running a sale where you can buy one handbag and get a wallet for 50 percent off. Target, $19.99
Betsey Johnson mixed fruit dress: Leave it to Betsey Johnson to combine so many elements of cuteness into one dress. Peplum, check. Heart-shaped cut-out in the back, check. Colorful array of fruits, check and check. Herberger’s, $108
Banana shorts: We’ve clearly gone completely bananas particularly over banana prints. Blame it on the Arrested Development comeback. But, if you’re not completely sure you want to try out the fruit-print trend in public, these lounge shorts are perfect to wear around the house or to bed. And they’re a real peel. We mean deal. Old Navy, $5.99.
