As such, Belk is hosting anniversary celebrations on Wednesday to commemorate 125 years of operation throughout its 16-state footprint at in-store events that kickoff at 9 a.m. local time.
Each of Belk’s 301 stores are hosting interactive entertainment and giveaways where the first 100 customers through the doors received a gift card of which Belk says the value of each card is at least $5 and up to $1,000..
“On this day we’re celebrating our rich heritage over the last 125 years, but we also want to celebrate our bright future,” says Tim Belk. “Today is about thanking our customers, associates and vendors for their support in the past and their partnership going forward.”
Belk is also offering special online and in-store discounts on least “125 exclusive products” from retail partners like Karen Kane, Ralph Lauren, Jones New York Signature, Jessica Simpson and Miss Me.
Belk has been running and will continue a 125-day prize giveaway for online customers since March in honor of the anniversary and Belk says they will continue to award daily prizes valued between $500 and $6,500 through July 10.
Additionally, thanks to a $2-million partnership with the Points of Light Institute, Belk associates will also work in 225 local schools during “125 Days of Service” to conduct unique “makeover projects” tailored for each location.
Belk, now in the third generation of family leadership, laud a continued focus on “friendly service, fair prices and community involvement” that first started on May 29, 1888, when William Henry Belk opened a small bargain store in Monroe, N.C., with a unique business model that catered to the Southern woman and her family.
Tim and John Belk say their grandfather used these values and principles to establish Belk department stores as the destination for “modern Southern style.”
