Ready to celebrate? Here’s a tour guide to four top festivals.
It’s officially “bloom watch” season in our nation’s Capitol. The springtime festival commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki, of Tokyo, to the city of Washington, DC.
Every year there are events surrounding the festival — including fireworks, a parade, kite flying, a “pink tie” party and more. The average peak bloom date is April 4. It’s looking to come a little earlier this year, though.
Looking for a hotel in the Capitol? TripAdvisor reviewers love the Kimpton Hotel Palomar, in part because of a hosted happy hour and availability of bikes to tour the city on. “The location is perfect for getting around DC,” one reviewer says. For the Cherry Blossom Festival, the hotel is offering a special “Drink in the Blossoms” package that includes two cocktails, two sachets of Organic Cherry Blossom Rose tea from a local tea company, a postcard featuring artwork inspired by the cherry blossom festival and more.
Music lovers, rejoice. The jazz festival line-up is packed with musical performances that run from April 22 – May 1.
Among the headliners? Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young, Snoop Dogg, Van Morrison, Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and more.
Not just will there be great, live music, but you’ll also be able to delight in some of the region’s best food — we’re talking seafood boils, po boys, alligator boudin and more at the festival’s various food stations.
Don’t miss a beat of the festival. TripAdvisor reviewers dish out their advice for the best hotels nearby the festival in a forum.
Travelers rave about the balcony rooms at Royal Sonesta (starting at $249 a night) on Bourbon Street, calling a “beautiful historic hotel” that is nearby the city’s best restaurants and shops.
Superheroes and pop culture lovers converge in San Diego to celebrate comics and the arts in sunny San Diego from July 21 to July 24.
The festival got its start in 1970 when a group of comics, movie, and science fiction fans came together to put together a comic book convention in southern California. Some of the world’s top cartoonists, illustrators and writers come together for the convention.
A perfect hotel for ComicCon-goers? Stay in the heart of downtown at Hard Rock San Diego. (You’ll definitely want to dive in to this rooftop pool). Plus, you’ll stick with the pop culture theme and be close to the convention center. One TripAdvisor reviewer raved about the “rockstar experience” at this hotel.
Epicureans, put this culinary extravaganza on your calendar. The Food & Wine Classic in Aspen happens June 17 – 19 and serves up wine tastings and cooking demonstrations in one of Colorado’s stunning mountain towns.
Want the full Aspen experience? Stay in a luxe hotel downtown. TripAdvisor reviewers have great things to say about The Innsbruck, calling it the “perfect cozy place to stay” and “five-star all the way.” Among the amenities? Fireplaces and hot tubs, which you’ll appreciate as temperatures dip on June nights in Aspen.
