La Mariposa: A bilingual blog with style galore
Rachel is the woman behind the totally original La Mariposa fashion blog. This girl not only has awesome style, but she writes all her blog posts both in English and Spanish. How cool is that? She is an expert of combining high-end items with affordable goodies to put together a look that is effortlessly chic. Meet Rachel …
Where I’m based: Boston, Mass. I frequently travel to Michigan (home sweet home) and Mexico (work away from work) so those areas are posted as well.
How long I’ve been blogging: Since February 2013
Blog/business basics: La Mariposa is a bilingual daily style blog. I hope to inspire my readers with fashionable looks that cover a variety of occasions. Outfit posts cover work-wear, casual Fridays, weekend looks, travel outfits, seasonal trends, date night outfits and more. I’m always up for suggestions on topics to cover as well!
What do you enjoy most about blogging? I love the community blogging has created. I adore so many other bloggers and readers that I have never actually met in person. Their positive support and kind words mean so much to me! I get the biggest smile every time I read comments from them.
Other blogs I love: Lovely Pepa, The Pink Peonies, Seams for a Desire, Style Elixir and VivaLuxury.
Guilty pleasure: Dark chocolate, JP Licks’ ice cream, reruns of Friends and Mexican soap operas.
Last thing I bought: I literally just snagged a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans on sale via Rue La La- they’re a skinny fit with a light wash.
Fav stores: I always laugh that I can make any store’s inventory work with my wardrobe — I like versatility and a challenge! However, I typically shop at H&M, TJ Maxx, J. Crew and J. Crew Factory, F21, Zara and DSW.
Accessory of choice: Um, does lipstick count? Hah! Besides that, I’d say jewelry is my main accessory. A necklace or earrings can really take an outfit from OK to amazing. I’m an Independent Stella & Dot stylist, so I’m always showing women how to utilize their bling to really vamp-up their looks.
How would you define your style? A chic bundle of feminine, bold and glam! Really, anything that makes me feel polished, and most importantly, confident.
What trend are you wearing that you never thought you would? Peplum! Peplum shirts, skirts and pants are all over my closet. I already have an hour-glass figure, so I didn’t think it would work for my body type. After playing around, I realized that peplum flaunts a tiny waistline while slimming hips. I think that’s what most women want, right? The trick is making sure that the actual flair starts at the correct spot on your body (I find that a high peplum takes away from my waist and torso).
Heels or flats? I almost always have both heels and flats in my bag at all times. I use flats to commute on the unforgiving cobblestone and heels to top off my look when I arrive. When I carry a small bag, I shoot for wedges (Oops, that wasn’t an option).
