Black Friday survival guide
The Black Friday frenzy starts on November 23rd, less than two weeks away. Whether you’re a Black Friday newbie or a seasoned professional, you need the key to survival during the chaotic, post-tryptophan shopping madness. You need a shopping plan.
Before you make your late night or early morning sojourn, here are some tips to keep in mind so you don’t lose your mind during the Black Friday craziness.
• Do your research
Before you go, check out the Black Friday ads online. Macy’s, Walmart, Target and Best Buy are just a few of the stores with teasers out. Have an idea of what items are MUSTS and compare prices before heading out to elbow your way through the crowds.
Also, familiarize yourself with special price matches and stores policies, because many have tailored them specifically for Black Friday.
• Have a plan
Just like any other road trip, map out your route so you aren’t driving around haphazardly. Make a per-person list so you can go in and grab what you are looking for.
Have a budget and stick to it. Just because something is a good deal doesn’t mean anyone on your list will ever need it! Consider shopping with a friend so you can divide and conquer. Factor in line-waiting time, too, which can be considerable.
• Go social
“Like” your favorite stores’ Facebook pages. Follow them on Twitter. Download Black Friday smart phone apps. Sign up for email lists, they sometimes send out coupons.
• Be prepared
Dress for the occasion. Layers work fabulously, because with all of that running around, you’re sure to end up warm no matter what the weather is like outside. Bring snacks and water so you don’t have to make any unnecessary stops. If you’re camping out by the front door, have a plan on where you’re going to stash your stuff once the doors open and crowds herd their way inside.
But if you feel like sleeping off the Thanksgiving feast instead of heading out for Black Friday, remember: Cyber Monday is another great option!
