He Calls Me Grace: fresh on the blogging scene
Katie Keltner of He Calls Me Grace is fresh on the blogging scene, and when she is not out taking pictures with her new camera, you can probably find her at her local Starbucks. She’s an avid reader, has tons of character and never grew out of her awkward clumsy stage. Meet Katie …
Where I’m based: I live in Dayton, Ohio. I just moved here last month from an hour south of the city. So far I love it! There is a lot to do. We are still exploring and finding new things that are going on around the city.
How long I’ve been blogging: I just started in May 2013, so not very long. I discovered a lot of blogs from Pinterest and found a few that grabbed my attention. The more I read, the more I wanted to try it! I am still learning all the ropes and trying to get my rhythm down but I am loving it so far. I hope to keep growing and meeting new people.
Blog/business basics: I haven’t gone a specific direction so far. I have written book reviews, participated in giveaways, posted about my Etsy shop and my current wish list. I basically write about things that interest me, and hopefully other people as well. I haven’t decided if I want to blog in a specific niche yet. I really just like it being casual and fun.
Guilty pleasure: Starbuck’s Café Mochas make my day! During the summer months I tend to go for Red Bull, since it can get too hot for coffee sometimes. But caffeine in any form really.
Fav stores: Target would be my number one choice. They have everything — and somehow they make me buy more than I initially planned. They also have a Starbucks inside! Kohl’s is in a close second — my go to store for buying clothes and shoes. They have great sales and I love the Kohl’s Cash they offer.
How did you get into photography? I have always had a standard point-and-shoot camera and was always documenting everything I did. About three years ago I decided to invest in a fancy camera — the Canon Rebel T1i. I saved for a few months; using gift cards from Christmas and my birthday, found coupons and price matching that I could use as well as using my employee discount to buy it.
Since I bought the new camera I have been learning a lot as I go. I usually take about 200 pictures and get 20 good ones. But I love doing it and can’t wait to continue learning.
I have been looking around for opportunities to take photography classes as well. I hope to be able to do that this year.
What are you favorite things to take pictures of? My three year old and one year old nieces! They are adorable and very photogenic. The three year old automatically smiles and poses when I have my camera out, even if I am not trying to take her picture. She always responds, “Let me see it!” and “I like it!”
I also like to do landscape or floral photography. It is much easier to take a picture of something that doesn’t move!
You’re a big reader, what’s your favorite book? Hmmm – hard question. I don’t think I have just one favorite. I am not very good at picking just one thing for books, movies or music. I like variety!
What are you pinning these days? Lately it has been pins about blog design or tips. And all things summer! Fashion, travel and fun images.
What’s your favorite form of caffeine? See above — Café Mocha for sure.
