How to celebrate Mother’s Day for free
By Melissa Brodsky
Looking for a special way, yet budget-friendly way, to let the important mothers in your life know how special they are on Mother’s Day? Some of the best things you can offer that special mom on May 12, whether she’s your wife, mother, aunt, sister, daughter or friend, are absolutely free. Here are some ideas:
- Let the mom in your life know she’s special to you. Vocalize your appreciation for all the things she does for you and all the ways she shows she cares. Too often, moms feel taken for granted, so this one is sure to be a winner.
- Make life easier for her. Give the mom in your life a homemade coupon book (use craft paper and colorful pens or pencils). Coupons could offer a week off from laundry duty, or a promise to take over cooking Sunday dinner. Other ideas include offering a service — painting a room, detailing her car or prepping her garden for spring planting.
- Serve up some tasty treats. Figure out what the mom in your life likes to eat, and make sure she gets it on her special day. But don’t just stop with a Mother’s Day breakfast. Why not make a day of it and serve up her favorites for lunch and dinner, too?
- Plan activities she enjoys, giving the gift of your time. For example, if the mom on your list likes museum trips, plan to see a new exhibit and go with her. If her idea of fun is spending the day munching popcorn and watching old movies, make a day of it. Once you know her ideal way to spend the day, make it happen and participate without complaint.
