Christmas decor for your car — cute or kitschy?
By Aimee Heckel
If you’re one of the many travelers planning on spending a chunk of your holiday vacation on the road, you may be looking for unique — and mobile — ways to express your holiday cheer.
You can’t exactly pack up the Christmas tree with you. But there are other ways to deck the halls, or dashboard.
Here are some of our favorite holiday car decorations — the good, the unique and the so-ugly-they’re-actually-kind-of-funny.
A simple, lovely, oversized red velveteen bow. Simply affix this inexpensive (99 cents at Party City) bow to your car’s grill or bumper, and you have managed to express holiday cheer without blowing a wad of cash and creating potential traffic hazards.
Reindeer Car Kit, $14.99 at Party City. These two non-scratch window antlers are cute, simple and, best of all, easy to set up and remove. Add an optional plush reindeer nose to the front of your car, if you want to kick it up a notch, although we think the antlers do the trick just fine. Sometimes a little less is more. Unless you have kids. They will love the nose.
Or go retro, with these reflective light car magnets, which look like old-fashioned Christmas lights. Only $12.49 for 10 multicolored magnets at Retroplanet.com.
Christmas Car Decorating Kit, $9.99 at Party City. This is basically the ugly sweater of car decor. With way too many removable decals, like “Santa’s watching,” “I brake for reindeer” and “Frantic shopper on board,” this setup may cause more road rage than cheer. It’s completely over the top with flags, a mirror card, magnets, 12 (yes, 12 as in 12 days of Christmas) vinyl decals and bumper art. We kind of love it. And hate it. So much emotion. Wow.
