Everybody’s favorite makeover show — What Not To Wear on TLC — finished its decade-run in August. We watched style duo Stacy London and Clinton Kelly work their wardrobe magic on a whole bunch of women — from the misfits (stop shopping in the junior’s section!) to the quirky (stop wearing only frog prints!) to the frugal to a fault (stop Duct taping your jeans back together!).
Already missing them lightheartedly making fun of outfits on your television? Don’t worry. Clinton is just a hashtag away. Macy’s has teamed up with the pro stylist for a social media experiment. Just go ahead and pose a question to Clinton on social media — Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest — and use the hash tag #HelpMeClinton. (Who knows, Bill or Hillary might chime in, too. Kidding. Maybe.)
He recently gave a fashion presentation in downtown Seattle, doling out one-minute makeovers. We’ve plucked some of his fashion advice and show you how you can rock some of Clinton’s Macy’s picks. (Money-saving tip: Shop these looks with ShopAtHome.com, and you’ll get an extra 5 percent Cash Back on your purchases).
Mixed media: For one featured look, Clinton’s model showed off a herringbone Michael Kors jacket with faux leather sleeves. She paired with maroon sued shoes and an unexpected snake print purse.
Sweater dressing: It’s sweater season, friends. A styling tip straight from Clinton: “Layer a colorful knit dress over a classic white collared button down for a sophisticated yet sassy look. Throw on a distressed ankle bootie to dress down the look.” To avoid bunching, Clinton suggests making sure that the shirt is very fitted and paired with a thicker knit dress. He styled this Tommy Hilfiger short-sleeved, fair isle dress — which is on sale for $65 and added a subdued red leather jacket on top.
Holiday dresses: On the topic of holiday dresses, Clinton has this to say: “Nothing says festive like a little sparkle and shine.” Following Clinton’s advice, we’re loving this Betsy & Adam Dress, a fit-and-flare number with sequined contrast lace and a charming ribbon belt. (Pssst. It’s on major sale, marked down to $125).
We’ll leave you with an oh-so-Clinton quote: “It’s about finding a style that works for you, not a superhuman model on the pages of a glossy magazine. It’s about being comfortable in your own skin rather than hiding in a pair of sweats.”
Preach, Clinton, Preach.
