Coffee-shop style ideas
By Brittany Anas
We adore the laid-back, chic look of baristas and want a side of their style with our next latte. Coffee-shop style evokes thoughts of comfy sweaters, bohemian-like accessories, rain boots and loose buns. And, that kind of look is oh-so-perfect for weekend wear.
Sock buns: A funny thing began happening on Pinterest last year. Girls started cutting up their socks to help them mold the perfect bun. Then sock buns or donut holes began popping up everywhere — for cheap. And you don’t have to raid your sock drawer. Using the hair tool, you’ll be able to plant the perfect bun atop your head. For a look that is less ballet school and more neighborhood coffee shop, gently pull loose some of your hair to frame your face. Here’s a Conair bun maker for just $2.09 from Walgreens. A shine spray, like this one from Suave at Wal-Mart, is a quick and affordable way to add shine to your locks.
Statement glasses: For those of us who don’t wear glasses, we covet the geek-chic update a pair of statement glasses lends to our look. We especially fancy them atop subtly done-up eyes with a dash of mascara and nude-tone eye shadow. Here’s a classic pair from Nordstrom for $10.
Cozy knits: Sweaters that will cuddle us while we sip on coffee or hot chocolate are a win. And, because spring lines are launching — sweaters are getting marked down right now. One of our favorites is the Bandit Fairisle sweater from Anthropologie, which is adorned with a Fairisle print along the body and pattern mixed with striped sleeves.
Bohemian jewelry: Cost Plus World Market is our go-to shop for unique jewelry imported from all over the globe. One of our favorites is the multi-strand brown seed bead from India that is $12.99 and feels earthy and stylish.
Books: They’re your best accessory at a coffee shop. There is something about rainy days or snowy weather makes us want to curl up with a classic like The Great Gatsby or The Scarlet Letter from Barnes & Noble.
