Cold weather beauty essentials
We are now in the dead of winter. In many places across the United States, that can mean a beauty nightmare, especially as the dry, cold air chaps our skin and fries our hair.
Here are some of our favorite cold-weather beauty essentials to help you make it through the winter without having to sacrifice your style to Jack Frost.
1. Fix those lips:
It doesn’t matter if you’re rocking the shade of the season if your lips are dry and flaky. Moisturize and smooth out your pucker with a lip scrub — yes, exfoliation isn’t just for your face. The Sara Happ Lip Scrub is a popular way to turn your lips into soft and sexy, with a hint of grapefruit and sugar to taste.
When you’re done, hydrate with Fresh Sugar Advanced Lip Therapy, which uses sea fennel to smooth your pout, orange extract to protect them and bonus “hyaluronic filling spheres” to increase their volume. Fresh claims this more-than-chapstick is “proven to provide 24 hours of moisture.”
If you think $25 is expensive for essentially a tube of chapstick, you haven’t tried this stuff; you get what you pay for, and after this, you’ll never go back to the $1 gas station brand. Fresh Sugar Advanced Lip Therapy, $25 (plus Cash Back), Nordstrom.com
2. Treat your hair:
Cold weather can really wreck your locks, too, which is why we make Moroccanoil an essential winter hair product. This oil has many uses, including topical for the skin, but a few drops in your conditioner or better yet, a moroccanoil-infused finishing spray can leave your hair looking shiny and frizz-free, as well as protect it from the harsh sun and wind. Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine, $14 (plus Cash Back), Nordstrom.com
3. Smooth out your face:
Winter dry skin can age you and leave your face tight and thirsty, too. We always keep a moisturizing and exfoliating face mask in our cabinet for a mini home facial at least once a week. This prevents dead skin from building up.
The First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask is an award-winning mask that does it all: hydrates, calms, nourishes and undoes winter — all using natural, paraben-free oatmeal and botanical antioxidants. Because it’s so gentle, you can use this mask two to three times a week. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask, $22 (plus Cash Back), Sephora.com
