Consumer Electronics Show 2014: What to expect from cameras and camcorders
CES 2013 wasn’t exactly mind-blowing when it came to cameras and camcorders. Most of the announcements were just new models from Polaroid, Canon and Fujifilm. Meanwhile point-and-shoot cameras continued their mini renaissance. But this year might make 2013 look like a camera boom. Here are some of the potential highlights for the field at CES 2014.
4K All Day
While there’s been no official announcement, Sony has hinted that they’ll be focusing on 4K in 2014, and that should start at CES 2014 in a big way. In addition to 4K laptops and smartphones, we should see a few 4K camcorders announced during the show.
Digital Camera upgrades
A few longtime camera manufacturers are set to debut brand new cameras at CES. Nikon will be announcing an entry level DSLR camera known as the D3300. Meanwhile Fujifilm will be announcing the XF56mm f/1.2 R in addition to four other new digital cameras. FujiFilm may also announce a few weather-resistant digital cameras that feature high-performance electronic viewfinders.
New PowerShots
As in past years, Canon should be announcing a new series of PowerShot cameras. These latest PowerShot models will replace the existing SX50 HS model, though it’s not as widely speculated that the Canon G1 X will also see a replacement announced at CES. However, that could be something that Canon is waiting to announce.
