DIY pedicure: How to treat your feet at home and on a budget this fall
Your feet deserve some loving after a summer full of adventures. They were troopers, traipsing about in those high, high heels at summer soirees or pounding the sand during those weekend beach volleyball games. Or maybe they led you on a summer backpacking trip.
But with sandal season over, and the arrival of boot-season here (hey, we like to think of seasons in shoe styles), your tootsies may not be getting much peep-toe time anymore, but they most def’ need some attention. We’re talking moisturizers to get them feeling soft again, buffers to keep your heels from cracking and pretty polishes, well, just because.
It’s time to take your little piggies for a pedicure. And you don’t have to go far (or spend a fortune) with these at-home pedi tools. (Added bonus of a DIY cold-weather pedi: No worrying about smudging your polish when you put your socks and boots back on at a salon. Just kick your feet up by the fireplace to let your polish dry and dive into a good book. And by book, we of course mean US Weekly).
A good soak
We hate to sound all Game of Thrones, but … Winter is coming! Seriously, what sounds more relaxing than warming up your feet with a warm-water soak? The Conair waterfall footbath, $49.99 from Target, comes with three attachments: Pumice stone, scrub brush and soft-touch massager. After all, a good pedi starts with relaxed, softened feet.
The at-home kit
Ready to get those toes in tip-top shape? For the price of one salon pedi, you can get an entire kit of tools for a season’s worth of at-home pedis. We love the Feet First Spa Pedicure from Walgreens, $35.99, that comes with a buffing pad, conditioning scrub, moisturizing lotion, sugar scrub, callus remover, pedicure slippers, pedicure brush, cuticle pusher and a cuticle oil pen.
Buff it up
The secret behind soft feet is a good buffer. The Clarisonic Pedi Foot Transformation set, $199 at Sephora, buffs away rough, dead skin to exfoliate and hydrate your feet so that you can, you know, but your best foot forward.
Polish it off
We love the holiday makeup collections that start coming out this time of year. Among them? The X Look Holiday Edition, $25 at Sephora, that comes with four cream and pearl polishes that are perfect for mixing or matching your mani and pedi. The limited-time holiday collection comes in Obsessed (opaque classic Merlot), Impassioned (purple pearl), Thrilling (opaque heather gray) and Temptation (iridescent gold pearl).
