Dog Hair is an Accessory: A hilarious blog featuring drinks and DIYs
Adriana Costa is the funny girl behind Dog Hair Is An Accessory. Her blog is unashamed, hysterical and a perfect read for dog lovers everywhere. She talks a lot about her dog, drinking and DIYs. Meet Adriana …
Where I’m based: Good ‘ol New England. I grew up in a suburb of Hartford, Conn. and now live downtown. It’s not really a city, it’s more like five square blocks that have restaurants, bars and a barber shop. I live in a studio apartment (finally getting a one-bedroom in December!) with my boyfriend, Tom and our super awkward dog, Lily.
How long I’ve been blogging: I’ve had this blog since February and I have loved 99 percent of it. That 1 percent is when I get home at 11 p.m. and have to write a blog post or I get backed up on emails. It’s such an outlet for me and the people I’ve met are out-of-this-world fun.
Blog/business basics: I write about whatever pops into my pretty-random working mind. I blogged about my inspirations in this post. Lil comes up a lot, but I’m not ALWAYS talking about her (at least I tell myself that). I try to do DIYs, (some fail) even some recipes (even more likely to fail) and mostly I just have stories about my crazy life.
I also end up giving advice pretty often but it tends to be more, “I did this and it was a bad idea. Here’s how to not suck like I did”. My little family is a huge source of entertainment for me, so I share those moments as much as possible. Plus I drink more than my share of wine.
Other blogs I love: I have quite a few everyday reads but my big three these days are Helene In Between, (she’s kinda my idol) Alyssa Said Hi and Understated Whimsy. I like bloggers that make me laugh and are entertaining! These girls do it right. Plus anyone with puppies get extra points and all of their pups are adorable!
Guilty pleasure: I feel like “guilty pleasure” is synonymous with Real Housewives but I don’t have cable. I do, however, have a freezer. And that means that frozen bite sized snickers are my guilty pleasure. I have about eight at a time, and usually eat them for breakfast, if they’re in the apartment.
Last thing I bought: A pair of shoes, chips and guacamole, a bottle of wine and dog food. That actually sums up my life in general pretty well.
Fav stores: Target. Oh, how I love Target and the T.J. Maxx chains. DSW because, let’s be real, I am obsessed with pretty shoes. And Nordstrom and J. Crew because who can resist. Also does Amazon count? I definitely put my prime membership to good use by getting pretty much everything from there. Can you tell I shop a lot?
Cocktail of choice: Prosecco and St. Germain. Although that’s a bit pretentious in most bars seeing as it comes in a champagne flute. Gin and tonics with St. Germain are great. Also I just discovered whiskey gingers! I HATE whiskey normally but love that mix! Also if you want to get real fancy I created my own drink, The Beverly. Try it — it does the trick.
What’s the funniest thing that’s happened so far in your quarter-life crisis? We got a dog. Well that part is only funny since the joke was on us. We wanted an English Bulldog (aka couch potato) and ended up seeing Lil at a shelter and falling in love. Now we have a 55-pound, hyperactive, Boxer mix living with us in a studio apartment in downtown Hartford. We’re idiots. She makes us so happy, but drives us crazier every day.
What’s your proudest moment as a DIY’er? Probably my post about making glam wine/liquor bottles as gifts. It’s such a fun project (duh, it uses glitter) and it’s been pinned and repinned so many times!
Your boyfriend is really funny and your dog is super cute, huh? Don’t you mean that the other way around? Fortunately for them, they’re both cute and funny. Unfortunately for me, they’re both outrageous and obnoxious 85 percent of the time. I wouldn’t have it any other way, though. I love them both, and really they are what inspired me to start my blog! I’m a lucky girl — most days.
