Easy, last minute recipes for the big game
Game day is synonymous with snacking. Last year, Americans ate 29 million pounds of chips, 1.29 billion chicken wings and 4 million pizzas during the big game, according to various food organizations.
Come Sunday when the Denver Broncos play the Carolina Panthers in the championship football game, you’ll want to keep your eyes on the television screen — not watching the oven.
From snackable appetizers to desserts, your crowd will cheer for these easy, last-minute no-bake treats during Sunday’s big game. (And, you won’t miss a minute of the game).
Dip it, don’t wing it:
Can’t get enough buffalo chicken? This buffalo chicken recipe from Betty Crocker is a fun, new spin on the gameday classic where you dip it — instead of wing it. With pre-cooked chicken and other ready-made ingredients, it’s super-easy.
In a large microwaveable bowl, you’ll mix the blue cheese dressing, buffalo wing sauce, chopped chicken and cream cheese. Cover and microwave on High for 2 to 3 minutes until it’s hot. Then, stir in your chopped celery.
Spoon your dip into a serving dish and serve with chips, pitas and veggies.
What you’ll need:
1 cup chunky blue cheese dressing
2 to 3 tablespoons buffalo wing sauce
2 cans (10 oz each) chunk chicken, drained, chopped
2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
2 medium stalks celery, finely chopped (1 cup)
1 bag (8 oz) Gardetto’s Special Request roasted garlic rye chips for serving
Extra veggies or pitas for serving
Hot potato bar:
Let your slow cooker do all the work while you’re cheering on your team.
We love the idea of setting up a baked potato bar on game day and letting your guests come in and out of the kitchen with their dressed up potatoes. (If you’re looking to save money, assign each guest a topping to bring — i.e. chili, cheese, scallions, sour cream, bacon bits, chives, broccoli florets.
Scrub your potatoes clean. Dry them, prick with a fork, and wrap them in aluminum foil. Toss them the crock pot on high for about four hours.
What you’ll need:
Crock pot
Russet Potatoes
Aluminum foil
Toppings – such as sour cream, cheese, scallions, bacon bits, chives and broccoli florets.
Chocolate-dipped ‘footballs’:
You and your guests will definitely want to intercept a few of these sweet treats!
Chocolate-dipped strawberries can easily be made to look like footballs. Just dip the strawberries in melted chocolate and, once they’ve cooled, use a piping bag and tip with the white chocolate to make the football’s laces. (Pipe a vertical line of the white chocolate down the middle of the strawberry and then put a half dozen or so horizontal crosses to imitate the stitches). Melt your candy chocolates in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until the chocolate is creamy. Three cups of dark chocolate and ½ cup of white chocolate should yield you enough melted dipping chocolate for two dozen strawberries.
What you’ll need:
Dark melting chocolate
White melting chocolate
Strawberries
Disposable decorating bags
Piping tips
