Easy ways to glam up your look for New Year’s Eve
Want to turn heads as you step in to 2013? There are lots of quick and inexpensive ways to update your look for a big night out — whether it be tonight as you bid farewell to 2012 or any other night that you want to add a little glamour to your beauty routine.
Faux eyelashes: Play up your eyes with by applying some fake lashes. They’ll feel a little funny at first — like a caterpillar is crawling near your eyes. But, that will soon go away and you’ll have voluminous, sexy lashes. Sally Beauty Supply has fake eyelashes for under $5. Make sure you also buy the glue needed to apply the lashes, or look for a package that includes the glue. If you don’t know how to put on eyelashes, check out a YouTube tutorial.
Hair extensions: Want to try out the ombre hair trend that was so popular this year, but not sure if you want to commit or spend tons of money at the salon to get the look? Give clip-in extensions a try. Ulta has 16 inch ombre extensions in varying shades. The idea is for your hair to gradually fade to lighter tones, so pick a shade that is a couple lighter than your natural hair color.
Lip plumper: No need to go out and blow up your lips like Botox-induced balloons. (That ended oh-so-badly for Heidi Montag). A lip-plumping gloss will give more subtle volume to your lips so that you can have perfectly kissable lips at midnight — without looking like a duck. Our favorite: Soap & Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker collagen for $22 at Sephora.
Cocktail rings: Candy for your fingers. A gaudy ring — and we mean that in the most endearing way possible — will give you the sparkle and shine appropriate for a big night out. We love these clustered cocktail rings in jewel tones from Target for just $12.99.
Avoid salt: Put down the leftover Christmas ham. Avoid high-sodium foods because it will cause your body to retain water weight before your big night out. Do drink a lot of water, though. It will keep your skin looking radiant and you’ll want to be hydrated if you toast champagne tonight.
