The most exciting games for the PlayStation Vita
Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld recently received a big price drop, bringing the powerful gaming machine down to just $199 — a price that a lot of players can get behind. With an extensive library of retail and downloadable games that keeps getting bigger, plus upcoming support with Sony’s PlayStation 4 (that will allow gamers to stream their console games to the handheld across home Wi-Fi networks), the PlayStation Vita is suddenly a pretty solid-looking investment.
Until the launch of the PS4, though, we’ve run down a few titles for the Vita that are worth your attention right now over at Amazon.com. The online retailer is also a great place to find things like additional memory cards and other accessories — a must for downloading lots of games — and additional credit for the PlayStation Network to purchase digital software.

The highest-rated PlayStation Vita game on Metacritic.com is Rayman Legends ($29.99), and for good reason. The whimsical platformer, featuring the well-loved character Rayman in a side-scrolling title with beautiful artwork and fast-paced gameplay, is a blast for players of all ages.
Among the better features about Rayman Legends is that it supports cooperative multiplayer, both locally between Vitas and online.
Also sporting some intense multiplayer action is the decidedly more mature Killzone Mercenary ($39.95). A first-person shooter taking place in the Killzone trilogy that was featured on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, Mercenary pits players against each other in intense, eight-player multiplayer deathmatches, and also includes a nine-mission campaign that spans the story of the console Killzone games.
You can also team up with as many as three players in Dragon’s Crown, a side-scrolling, fantasy themed brawler that’s all about landing combos and making huge attacks against tons of powerful enemies. Players choose from a number of characters and classes, like the hulking dwarf and warrior or the quick and accurate elf and magic-infused sorceress, and fight through a labyrinth filled with enemies.
A horrifying experience
One of the best games of 2012, on any platform, was Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead, and Vita players who haven’t experienced the title definitely shouldn’t miss it. Taking place in the universe of the comic book series of the same name, but only peripherally related to the characters found there, The Walking Dead is a point-and-click adventure game that’s more about story and interaction with other characters than it is action — although you’ll still find yourself in life-or-death situations, fighting zombies, bandits, and maybe even your fellow survivors. The Walking Dead is a great title to grab with Halloween on the way, but it’s definitely for more mature audiences.
