Fashion plays favorites with its seasons and we have a suspicion that fall tops its list. Need proof? Just wait till your fall fashion magazines arrive in the mail in just a couple of weeks and are just about as thick as encyclopedias. It’s understandable: Autumn is a fun season to dress for, with classic staples like tartan, leather riding boots and wool hats.
Stores are starting to give us a glimpse of fall 2014’s newcomers with pre-fall arrivals. Here’s a few fall trends that we’ll be seeing lots more of once school starts and the leaves start to change colors.
- Pixelated prints. Last fall, we were seeing real moody florals in dark, saturated colors for fall. This season, we’re spotting lots of pixielated prints. (Think of a renewed spin on your grandma’s embroidery). One fun way to wear the pixie prints is to pattern mix it with classic stripes or or plaid. If you’re in love with the trend, check designer Nanette Lepore’s pixel plaid sheath ($428) with slimming vertical stripes at Anthropologie, where you’ll earn 3 percent Cash Back from ShopAtHome.com.
- Back to basics. If you’re a minimalist when it comes to fashion — you look put together in flattering silhouettes and love yourself a LBD — fall 2014 has your name written on it. For perfectly put-together looks, check out the Sloan collection at Banana Republic. You’ll find lots of simple, yet stunning, looks great for the office. A few of our faves: The Gemma Navy Print Wrap Dress, the Heritage White Lace Shift Dress, and the white Voile Safari Blouse (on sale for $34!) Earn Cash Back and ShopGold rewards when you shop at Banana Republic with ShopAtHome.com.
- Lengthy “maxi” cardigans. One things comes to mind when we see pre-fall knits: How low can you go? Cardigans are going to be super cozy come fall. (Basically, we’ll be wrapping ourselves in stylish blankets). Lighterweight cardis are dipping all the way down mid-calf for a bohemian kinda vibe. A nickname for these lengthy cardigans: “The Maxi Cardigan.” Find a classic striped maxi cardigan at Forever 21 for under $20. We also like this open-knit maxi cardigan that comes in olive, burnt orange, black or white.
- Southwestern prints. They’re everywhere. And a little bit vintage-y. A few good finds: The Free People ‘Terra Nova’ Print dress on sale at Nordstrom (earn up to 15 percent Cash Back!) and this fun Jute Bags Friendship southwestern tote from Kohl’s.
