We know all eyes will be on the bride. But after all, you did raise her. And she surely got her beauty from you.
The mother-of-the-bride deserve special treatment, too. It’s your second chance to buy that perfect dress for a big wedding.
Here are some of our favorite mother-of-the-bride fashion trends for fall and 2014.
The store of our choice is JCPenny, which offers a special Modern Bride department.
If you are a fit mama (don’t you know, 60 is the new 20?), this shutter-pleat lace dress in a stunning grey called “gunmetal” will show off your yoga body. The angled lace layers are slimming. Grey is a sophisticated color, but not as funeral-procession as black. (We all know you shouldn’t wear white and red is just begging for attention.) Grey tones are great if you have grey hair, but make sure it doesn’t age you. Check the color in natural sunlight, and be honest: Does it make you glow? Or groan?
If grey is not your power color, opt for navy. This dress comes in a variety of colors, and even plus size.
Also, you’re going to want to pick a dress that hits just below or just barely above your knee. If possible, go with below, and pair it with kitten heels.
If you want to cover your upper arms, which is recommended for most women over the age of 50, pick a beautiful wrap, like this chiffon charmeuse wrap, on sale for just $9. Available in white or black. (We advise black; let the bride own the white tonight.)

Looking for a more conservative dress? How gorgeous is this Dana Kay embellished dress in eggplant, with its matching jacket, for $64.99?
Accent your outfit with a special piece of jewelry that you can pass down to your daughter when she’s the mother-of-the-bride. These cultured freshwater pearl earrings, $125, are elegant and timeless, yet a little more interesting than simple pearl studs.
