How to feel like you’re at New York Fashion Week
By Brittany Anas
It’s arrived: The eve of New York Fashion Week.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week runs Sept. 5-12 and just as exciting as the runways giving us a peep of what’s to come in Spring 2014 is the street style parading on the sidewalks of New York. We can already hear the jingling bangles of fashionistas waving for cabs and the clip-clop of Jimmy Choo booties. And, yes, there will probably be a handful of ladies who insist on wearing the next season’s outerwear — even though the forecast calls for temps to be in the 90’s.
And since we can’t all be at fashion week — we can do the next best thing and celebrate it from the comfort of home.
Here’s how you can feel like you’re at New York Fashion Week.
- Stream it online! Yes, this year you can watch the shows live online for free. And, when you’re watching online, you won’t worry whether you can see over a celebrity’s top knot bun or have to angle for the best Instagram snapshot. Here’s a full schedule of events. We’re eager for Sept. 8 which has a powerhouse lineup showcasing Tracy Reese, Zac Posen, Trina Turk, DKNY and Diane von Furstenberg.
- Turn to social media. Oh, how Pinteresting?! Pinterest has launched a special hub to cover New York Fashion Week. You’ll be able to see the shows and trends through the camera lenses of Michael Kors, Lauren Conrad, fashion blogger Keiko Lynn, Harper’s Bazaar and more. You can also follow the official Pinterest boards of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. We love how they’ve organized their boards — one called “bling it on,” another called “styled to rock,” a special board for “festival fashion” and another dedicated to how you can interpret the runways.
- Shop online and save on designer brands. We can’t wait to see what Diane von Furstenberg has in store at her show. But, why wait? When you shop with ShopAtHome.com, you can earn 3.5 percent Cash Back at DVF. And before we get too ahead of ourselves thinking about spring 2014, shop DVF’s fall runway looks — a collection that includes bold animal prints and wrap dresses. We’re swooning over the burnt orange suede wrap dress, a black wrap dress with glam leather accents and a mixed print chiffon dress.
