Final Four style: Outfits and team trivia to impress your friends
By Brittany Anas
Don’t have a collegiate T-shirt to accurately reflect who you’re cheering for in the Final Four? No problem — just try the ol’ color-blocking trick for a team spirit style slam dunk. (Heck, some people even use a team’s color as the sole criteria for filling out their brackets).
March Madness really heats up during the Final Four games April 6, (No. 1 seed Louisville takes on No. 9 seed Wichita State at 4:05 p.m. MT; No. 4 seed Michigan squares off against fellow No. 4 seed Syracuse at 6:49 p.m MT.) followed by the NCAA Championship April 8.
Here are some chic outfit ideas that you can rock at your local sports bar, watch party or — lucky you! — in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome, where the games are being played. We’re also throwing in some random trivia, so you can impress your friends with not just your outfit, but your sports knowledge, too.
If your team is the Louisville Cardinals: Toss on a red blazer over a T-shirt for a collegiate preppy look. We’re loving the dimension of this red blazer from Piperlime, on sale for $29.97. Toss in some yellow with these subtle round rhinestone earrings from Charlotte Russe.
Fun fact: Louisville has long been in the spotlight for college basketball, yes. But, the city is also well-known for baseball, housing the Louisville Slugger Museum. The museum, by the way, is home to the world’s biggest bat, stretching 120-feet into the sky. Visitors also can touch bats once used by superstars like Cal Ripkin Jr., Derek Jeter and Mickey Mantle.
If your team is the Wichita State Shockers: Throw on a pair of sleek black jeans with a sporty yellow-striped T-shirt. Our pick: These black-washed legging jeans from Gap and this striped yellow T-shirt from Asos that has a sporty and unexpected V-neck in the back.
Fun fact: The last time the Shockers made it to the Final Four was 1965, but, the school’s bowling team is familiar with the national spotlight, capturing a whopping 19 national championships.
If your team is the University of Michigan Wolverines: Show your pride with a blue dress and some yellow accessories. The colors play well together for a nautical look. We fancy this polka dot dress from Forever 21 and sweet yellow heels from Francescas.
Fun fact: Avoid bringing up Chris Webber’s infamous timeout. It’s still a sore subject. Of the otherwise successful ’92-’93 team, Eric Riley was the only player who eventually won a championship ring in the NBA. (He played for the Houston Rockets).
If your team is Syracuse: Here’s the easiest one. Orange is not just the school’s color, but Otto the Orange is the mascot. You’ll easily be spotted as a Syracuse fan in a bright orange eyelet dress from Old Navy.
Fun fact: Dave Bing led Syracuse to the 1965 Final Four and is in the NBA’s Hall of Fame. He’s now the mayor of Detroit.
