Where to find affordable gym clothes
Well, here comes January ready to pick us up by the sports bra straps and snap us back into our work-out regimes. Got any fitness-related goals on your New Year’s Resolution chart? We suspected so. USA.Gov keeps a list of popular resolutions and “get fit,” “lose weight” and “eat healthy foods” are among the most popular.
If you are just getting back into the gym and don’t want to stick out like a “newbie,” avoid over-matching, super-coordinated sets. (You know, baseball hat to yoga pants to tennis shoes in all gray with subtle pink stripes).
Start off by going through your drawers and taking inventory of what you have and what you need. Toss out any socks with holes, sports bras that have lost elasticity and T-shirts with pit stains. (We know, we know you just sweat rainbow dust). Have enough work-out clothes that you won’t run out before the end of your laundry cycle. And, stock up on clothes appropriate for the workouts you enjoy or are going to try.
Ross and TJ Maxx: Shop these stores for name-brand work-out shorts, T-shirts, yoga pants, fitness bathing suits and even shoes. Nobody will be able to tell that your Nike swoosh is a 2011 version because they’ve stayed pretty consistent over the years. You’ll be able to find loads of gear sometimes up to 70 percent off the original price. Know which fits you like, and buy in multiples.
Athleta: The athletic apparel retailer has a “give it a workout guarantee.” Translate: You can run in it, lift in it, do Zumba in it, and saturate it in sweat — and then return it if you don’t love it. We love the easty-to-navigate web site that allows you to “shop by sport” to get you well-equipped for any new adventures or sports you’ll be trying. Now through Dec. 29, all sale items are an extra 20 percent off. We love the patterns on these light-weight running shirts (on sale for $49.99) that is made up of fabrics that will wick away sweat and these relay capris perfect for the gym or running. (We’ll take her abs, too, please).
Foot Locker: Invest in a gym bag this winter. Keep it packed with work-out clothes so that you can go straight from work to the gym or for those early mornings it’s tough getting out of bed. Foot Locker has some Nike duffle bags for just under $30.
