The best free iOS games
Since the creation of the iTunes App Store, the idea that you don’t need to pay for a great gaming experience has been drilled into consumers’ heads. Years later, it remains as true as ever. While the five app games below might have some optional in-app purchases, the core games remain completely free to play and they’re all pretty dang good, so check them out. If you need help with funds for those in-app purchases, just hit up the Apple Store and get an iTunes gift card and 2 percent Cash Back.
Asphalt 8 didn’t start life as a free to play game but now that it is free, it’s a must-download app. Featuring 47 real high-performance cars ranging from Lamborghinis to Ferraris, this is a real racing experience on your iPhone. Asphalt also features hair raising stunts and 9 different locations for races. Players run through eight seasons filled with 180 events in the game’s career mode and there are additional multiplayer modes for extended replay value.
Temple Run 2 shouldn’t be as fun as it is. Endlessly running (in a first person view) down a straight path with the occasional fork in the road sounds kind of dull while describing it, but it’s actually thrilling to see how far you can make it before succumbing to the game’s numerous dangerous traps. It’s not the best looking or most advanced game but it’s one of iOS’ most addictive gaming experiences.
A bit “Draw Something” mixed with a social network, DrawQuest offers up daily quests that players of all ages can attempt. Users can join drawing communities and watch replays of someone’s drawing to see how they arrived at their latest masterpiece. The game’s drawing tools have also been praised for how easy they are to use.
Smash Bandits is a joyride of an arcade racer where players upgrade their car in order to smash through everything in their path. The more you smash, the better you do in Smash Bandits. Players can share scores via Facebook and Game Center friends to see who truly is the best at smashing things.
Plants vs. Zombies made the idea of a strategy game appeal to the masses and Plants vs. Zombies 2 looks to continue the trend. The game features new plants and new zombies and new levels including brand new endless levels in addition to levels that take place at sea and at the pyramids. It’s everything that was great about the first PvZ with a lot more oomph.
