Long Johns and fritters and bear claws, oh my!
Today, June 6, is National Donut Day and to celebrate that joyous news, we bring you a Freebie Friday roundup of shops serving up free deliciousness.
Dunkin’ Donuts: The chain is giving away one donut with the purchase of any beverage today. What kind of donut is up to you, but some locations will feature a special “Smiley Face” version for the day. The “Smiley Face” is a yeast shell donut and could be filled with either jelly or Bavarian or chocolate creme, depending on location. And, obviously, it’ll be decorated with a smiley face. Krispy Kreme: Head to your local Krispy Kreme for a free donut of any kind today. Check out the chain’s menu and we dare you to try picking just one. When you finally do, there’s no purchase or coupon required for this freebie!
LaMar’s Donuts: This mostly Midwest franchise is also serving free donuts with no purchase necessary. However, only donuts with holes are part of the promotion, meaning jelly- and creme-filled varieties are out. That said, there are still lots to choose from on the menu. LaMar’s is also teaming up with the Salvation Army to help raise money to fight children’s hunger, which makes sense because it was actually the Salvation Army that created National Donut Day in 1938. The group launched National Donut Day to “honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.”
Shipley Donuts: If you’re further south, head to Shipley Donuts for a free glazed donut and small coffee from 5 a.m. to noon today. What goes better together than donuts and coffee? Free donuts and free coffee, obviously! Find the location nearest you here.
Tim Hortons: The chain based in Canada and founded by former hockey player Tim Horton, is getting in National Donut Day at its more than 800 U.S. locations. The only catch is that you must say, “Happy National Donut Day” to receive your freebie. To find a Tim Hortons near you, click here.
