Gadgets for a memorable Super Bowl experience
by Phil Hornshaw
The biggest game in football is fast approaching. While the Super Bowl is a big deal for football players, it’s arguably a bigger deal for football fans. Players might need to perform in front of a national audience, but fans have to feed their friends, put on a good party, and provide the right electronics for the perfect experience.
If you’re in the latter category, planning to have friends over to watch the game with beers, snacks and shouting at the TV, you’re probably going to have to spend some big money. But fear not! There are all kinds of good deals on all kinds of Super Bowl-worthy gadgets, so long as you know where to look.
Procuring your giant TV
Of course, you’re going to need a proper screen on which to watch the game. If you’re looking for something ludicrously big, the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier in January showcased huge 4X TVs in the 80-inch range. If not, you can still grab some great HDTVs from a number of places, such as Walmart (which offers 3 percent cash back) and Best Buy (which offers 2 percent cash back). Walmart also has a special on a 47-inch LG HDTV for $598, and Best Buy’s 60-inch Samsung LED TV is on sale for $999, making them great places to start your search.
Entertaining essentials
Now that you’ve handled the TV, you’ll want to think about other essentials, like beer and snacks. Best Buy offers a number of beer fridges perfect for the occasion, and if you need food and other kitchen essentials, try Walmart and also Target, where you can nab 2 percent cash back.
If it’s not too cold to grill but you’re short on space, consider a compact grill from Radio Shack. You might also check out Radio Shack’s selection of surround sound systems to get the full field experience. And several of the other stores listed carry both those items, so you’re free to shop around for the best deal.
Regardless of your Super Bowl festivities, planning is key to saving money. Figure out what items you need early and shop around to make sure you can enjoy the game without worrying about busting your bank account.
