GLBT vacations rank as a top growing travel market
By Aimee Heckel
Gay and lesbian tourism is a booming travel market, according to the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association. In fact, the GLBTQ travel market is growing three times faster than mainstream — bringing in $55 billion per year.
Increasingly more companies are offering GLBTQ focused vacation packages and destinations.
GayDestinationWeddings.com offers the “G-List,” a list of the best, gay-friendly hotels around the world. It can also help you plan a destination wedding (and has already helped plan more than 15,000 of them). Search by destination location, and then read about that region’s specific same-sex marriage laws and requirements. You can also get professional help planning a honeymoon, anniversary or other special vacation.
Orbitz.com offers a special page with information on planning your next “gaycation.” Join the Orbitz Rewards program to earn points on hotels and flights, and save even more money with these Orbitz coupons. Experience GLBTQ events, like the WorldPride 2014 June 20-29 in Toronto, featuring parades, parties and more, including a show by Tegan and Sara.
Another popular event is Twin Cities Pride in Minnesota June 28-29. Enjoy more than 400 different exhibits, plus dozens of food and drink booths. This free event draws a crowd of more than 300,000 ever year. Don’t forget to check out LA’s Outfest.
Find the best gay-friendly bars and events in whatever town you are visiting, via Gaycities.com. Just type the city’s name into the top search bar, or scan the map on the right. See photos and connect with other site users, too.
Go on an all-gay cruise with Atlantis. Travel from LA to Mexico or through Spain. If ships aren’t your thing, you can stay at one of the Atlantis resorts, like Club Atlantis in Mexico, a gorgeous, all-inclusive resort on one of Mexico’s top beaches.
