Holiday gift guide: Slip into cozy, comfy slippers
When the heroine in a steamy romance tells the handsome man sipping whiskey in her living room, “Hold on a second, let me slip into something comfortable,” we’d like a reality check.
Because to really slip into something comfortable this time of year, we’re not thinking silk, satin and high heels. We’re thinking flannel and a really cushy pair of slippers.
In fact, we’re thinking those slippers are the perfect gift for the heroine—or hero—in your life.
If she’s really going to slip into something comfortable, forget that slinky lingerie. It’s cold outside, people.
We checked in with Willie Lambert, L.L.Bean footwear merchant manager, to find out what to look for in the perfect pair of slippers. In Maine, after all, they know all about keeping warm.
“A great slipper keeps your feet warm on chilly nights, but doesn’t cause them to overheat and feel clammy,” Lambert says, suggesting L.L.Bean’s Wicked Good Slippers, which are great when it comes to thermal regulation.
Shearling, Lambert notes, keeps the feet warm, but it breathes because it’s a natural material.
Another plus—and one we found when we went shopping for slippers: Look for slippers like the “Wicked Good” type, which have versatility.
“Their indoor-outdoor bottom allows just enough moisture shedding protection that you can run out and check the mail without fear,” Lambert says.
We’ve looked around at a handful of the finest slippers for your friends, relatives or your sweetheart. Anyone with chilly feet would love these. Oh, and if it’s your sweetheart and you’ve delivered the “slip into something more comfortable” line, women? Once you’re under those covers, we suggest shedding the flannel and slippers.
These come in men’s and women’s sizes, to fit everyone on your gift list. We can guarantee they’re comfy and sturdy, and we can also guarantee this: They come from L.L. Bean, so they’re guaranteed to last. L.L.Bean Wicked Good shearling slippers, $49.99-$99.99, llbean.com
