‘Grand Theft Auto V’ and other hot console releases
It’s fall now, and that means a lot of different things to different people. To gamers, it basically means Christmas has come early. October and November are always filled with titanic new releases like Call of Duty. But just as we hear holiday tunes playing earlier and earlier each year, huge new releases come as early as late August these days. One new game that will probably dwarf even Call of Duty is the release of Grand Theft Auto V, easily the biggest gaming software launch of 2013. But what else can you buy already? There are plenty of options, all available at Gamestop at up to 2.5 percent Cash Back.
Massive sandbox games and RPGs dominate the charts
Sticking to the same open world excellence that Grand Theft Auto brings us, but with more of a focus on making things as absolutely insane as possible, you should definitely play Saints Row IV. Just as adult, but way less mature, with far more creative freedom. It’s the jelly to GTA V’s peanut butter. This month also saw the release of Diablo III, one of the biggest games of 2012, as a console title. Over a year since the PC release, this is one of the best PC to console ports around, and there are even some improvements over the PC version.
Are massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs) more your speed? No MMO this year has had more of a controversial history or more smashing success than Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The first Final Fantasy XIV was a historic failure at launch. It had so many issues that Square Enix publicly apologized for the game, which is something you rarely see developers do. They decided to roll the dice a second time, and not only is this game drastically improved, Square Enix had to halt sales and apologize yet again due to their servers being overwhelmed by eager players. Especially cool is that the Playstation 3 version of the game gives you access to the PC version.
Games you should pre-order
One more big PS3 game is Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX. Bringing a lot of content previously exclusive to Japan to the US in a great compilation/remake of the first (a.k.a. the best) Kingdom Hearts. This is especially big news with the recent announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3, a game we’ve been waiting far too long for. On the Nintendo side of things, the Wii U is finally starting to build a decent games library, with the long awaited release of Pikmin 3. If you’re looking for a great platformer that I personally think is even better than Mario, Rayman Legends is another cross platform recent release, and it’s just wonderful.
I’ve got one last section here for you, dedicated to pre-orders. I’ve already listed quite a few big games, but there are so many more coming in October and November that it’ll make your head spin, not the least of which is Call of Duty: Ghosts. October will also see the newest game featuring everyone’s favorite caped crusader, Batman: Arkham Origins, and you can already buy the Batman Arkham Bundle to bring yourself up to speed. The Wii U will soon see The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, a remake of one of my favorite Zelda games. And finally, I have to give a nod to the Nintendo 3DS, and what may be the most anticipated Poke’mon games of all time, Poke’mon X and Y, finally bringing 3D graphics to the massive franchise.
