Great back to school deals on iPhone docks
The great thing about smartphones is their versatility, allowing them to do a lot more than just function as, well, phones. With relatively large hard drives, they’re great places to nest lots of music that users can get access to whenever they want it.
But, when you’re at home studying, often headphones just won’t cut it. That’s why there are numerous awesome docks out there for iPhones that turn the tiny devices into the centers of full-on stereos. With school back in session or looming on the horizon, there are lots of deals on docks that are great for filling a dorm room, bedroom or apartment with sound. The list of products at Amazon.com runs the gamut of price and capabilities, and we’ve identified a few solid options.
Keep it cheap
If money is something you’re trying to keep reigned in, there are a number of clock-speaker hybrids in the range of around $60. The Philips DC291/37 30-Pin iPod/iPhone/iPad Alarm Clock Speaker Dock automatically syncs with your phone’s clock when it’s docked and will cost you about $56, for a start.
At the same price point is the iHome iP46 Portable 30-Pin iPod/iPhone Speaker Dock, although it doesn’t include a clock function. Both are good for any iPhone older than the iPhone 4S.
If you’re packing an iPhone 5, you’ll need a dock that supports Apple’s new lightning connector. For just less than $70, iHome’s Dual Charging Stereo FM Clock Radio can handle the job, and includes a universal USB port that allows it to charge other devices as well as your iPhone.
Top of the line
On the other end of the spectrum come some much more expensive iPhone docks, but you’re usually paying for quality. For example, the Bose SoundDock Series II 30-Pin iPod/iPhone Speaker Dock, which comes in versions compatible with older iPhones and the iPhone 5, will run you about $200, but uses award-winning Bose technology and even allows for additional device inputs, like CD players.
Another alternative is the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Z2 iPod Speaker System, at $410. It supports Apple’s AirPlay feature, which lets you stream music content over a Wi-Fi connection, and includes a remote control, bass boost technology and support for both older and new iOS devices.
