We’ve turned to Macy’s — where you can get 3 percent Cash Back from ShopAtHome.com — for a few tips on how to curate a well-thought out wedding registry. (When you register with Macy’s Wedding Shop, you can get rewards — even on the gifts that are purchased for you. Stack that up with Cash Back from ShopAtHome.com, and you’ve got mega savings).
Here are a few tips that will be helpful as you and your love bird think about how you’ll be feathering your new nest.
Register at different price points: Mom and dad might be more able to splurge on a big gift, while your cousin who just got out of college will probably appreciate some items on your wish list that are at a lower price point.
When to register: Macy’s wedding registry gurus say it’s best to register four to six months prior to the wedding date. This allows people to plan — especially if they are coming to a shower.
Know your dishes: Do you and your spouse-to-be have a mish-mash of serving ware? Give your kitchen a unified look. Something that’s good to know: A 5-piece place setting serves one person and includes a dinner plate, salad plate, bread and butter plate, tea cup and saucer. If you plan on having a dinner party of eight, for example, register for eight 5-piece sets.
Dishwasher-safe stemware: Before you register, check the height of the upper rack of your dishwasher and compare it with the stemware length to make sure it will be a good fit.
Invest in some non-stick cookware: It performs great at low temperatures and is great for cooking healthy seafood for dinner or egg white omelettes for breakfast.
Take a quiz: Macy’s has online quizzes that you can fill out to help find the best cookware and servingware to match your personality and your kitchen.
Plan out a day to register: You can either go into the store or complete a registry online. “Shop” together so that you can find household items you both love.
