Healthy and fun date ideas
by Shelley Langenhorst
In every new relationship there is a “honeymoon” phase. Whether you are newly dating or just married, this phase typically includes a lot of wining, dining and time spent in.
Going out for drinks and pizza or snuggling up on the couch for a movie are great date ideas but they could possibly have a negative effect on your waistline.
Though exciting, a new relationship can be damper to your healthy lifestyle. Instead of worrying about gaining weight, consider switching up your idea of dating and try out these healthy and active date ideas instead.
No matter how hard you try to eat healthy at a restaurant, you never have complete control of the ingredients in your dish. Oftentimes, restaurants use butter and oils for flavoring and their portions can be three or more times the recommended serving!
To avoid unnecessary weight gain from eating out all of the time, how about dining in on your next date? Head to your local health store for fresh ingredients and whip up a healthy version of your favorite date foods. Host mini cooking competitions and challenge each other to delicious and healthy meals.
Movies are a great date night idea, but instead of sitting around for two hours get out and get active together. Go for a walk along a beautiful trail downtown or find the best bike route in your area and have a picnic after a day on the trails. Hiking is another fun way to get active together.
Don’t let winter weather keep your dates inside. Go snow-shoeing or skiing to keep active with each other even during colder months.
Both have dogs? Meet at the dog park instead of the doughnut shop for a fun Saturday morning date together.
Consider training for a 5k or other fun race together. Not only will all of the training lead to a closer bond, but you will be more likely to see your goal through if you have a partner for accountability.
If running doesn’t sound like your thing, sign up for a workout class neither of you has taken. Being outgoing and trying something new is a great way to strengthen the relationship. Partner yoga, spin and even Zumba are all fun classes you can enjoy together.
