Stylish sports gear at an affordable price and designed with input from Olympic athletes?
Sounds like a winning combination.
H&M, a favorite of fashionistas seeking the latest trends while on a budget, announced Wednesday that it will debut its new H&M Sport collection on Jan. 2. The revamped collection will offer more choices for a larger variety of activities for men, women and children.
“Sport and fitness is becoming an increasingly important part of all of our lifestyles,” Ann-Sofie Johansson, Creative Head of Design at H&M, said in the company’s release regarding the new focus on the line.
H&M, which is based in Sweden and previously announced it would be outfitting the Swedish Olympic team for the Winter Games in Sochi next year and the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, sought the input of those same athletes when redesigning the sportswear line.
“What we wear definitely makes a difference when we compete,” Swedish swimmer and three-time Olympic medalist Therese Alshammar said in H&M’s release. “It’s been a great experience to offer our advice for this newly expanded H&M Sport collection. Our focus has been checking the pieces for fit and function, for performance and also comfort.”
The women’s line will include a windproof and water-repellent jacket, fleece jackets and water-repellent bottoms for outdoor activities. There will also be quick-dry pieces for intense workouts, looser garments for yoga and three different styles of sports bras.
H&M Sport for men includes sleeveless hoodies, tennis shorts and polos, and essential running gear (T-shirts, layering pieces, a waterproof shell jacket).
For children, H&M will debut gear for soccer, tennis, swimming and dance.
Also in the new collection are beanies and yoga mats.
Overall the H&M Sports line is based in blacks and greys – typical fare in the world of workout wear. However, the line also mixes in splashes of color as hot pink, teal and yellow add a vibrant pop to the looks.
H&M isn’t new to the world of activewear. In 2012, the company began offering yoga and running pieces. It also added skiwear last winter.
