Turkey trouble? Pie problem? These holiday cooking apps can help
Let’s be honest: We may try, but we can’t all be Martha Stewart when it comes to entertaining. Sometimes we need a little help in the kitchen to cook the perfect bird on Thanksgiving or make some tasty cookies for the holiday bake sale.
To that end, we’ve rounded up some awesome apps to help you navigate the holiday cooking season with ease.
Turkey tips from the experts. Butterball has its own free app with tips for cooking the main dish at your holiday feast, plus it includes recipes for side dishes, desserts and all those leftovers. Get it: Apple version, Android version
Special diet? No problem! Check out the Whole Foods Market Recipes app if you’ve got a guest with dietary restricts joining you this holiday season. The free app features recipes that are vegan, vegetarian, wheat-free and dairy free. There are also low-sugar and low-sodium options. Get it now.
The pies have it. Holiday meals aren’t complete without pie, but what if you’re not a pumpkin fan? Check out the in-depth and highly rated Appetites’ Pie app in the iTunes store. It’s $9.99, so you have to be serious about your pie, but the app includes step-by-step video formats for 20 pies of the not-so-traditional variety. Flavors include: Butterscotch Toffee, Winter Deep Dish Berry and Fudge Cherry. And, if you just want a twist on traditional, there’s the Chai Spice Pumpkin. Get it.
Android users have access to Pie Recipes!, a free app that boasts more than 275 recipes. Not all the recipes are dessert pies, but there are plenty of those, plus gluten-free options.
No more cookie conundrums. When you want to bring something new to the table for a cookie exchange, check out the Best Cookie Recipes app in the Google Play store. This free app features the best of the best recipes for 10 different kinds of classic cookies including chocolate chip, peanut butter, sugar, oatmeal and gingerbread. Get it.
For Apple users, consider the Cookies: Betty Crocker The Big Book of Series app. This app is free and so are the first five recipes you download. There are more than 180 recipes that are available via in-app purchase.
Drink up! Add some cheer to your holiday party with a signature cocktail this season. Mixologist (a paid app at $.99 for iPhone and $1.49 for Android) and Mixology (the ad-supported free version) are available for both Apple and Android users. The apps feature nearly 8,000 recipes that range from cocktails to hot drinks and even non-alcoholic versions, so no one will go thirsty at your shindig.
