Should you install Google Keep to your smartphone or tablet?
Google has a habit of creating great web-based services, then making them available as reliable Android apps. From Gmail to Google Drive, you can do a lot on your mobile devices for free thanks to Google’s services.
The latest addition is Google Keep, a note-taking app that lets you jot down ideas and leave yourself reminders in text, with images and by recording voice. As there’s no shortage of note-taking apps available on the Android platform, do you really need another one?
Google Keep might not reinvent the wheel when it comes to note-taking on a mobile device, but it does help make it a little more convenient.
Google Keep shares a lot of elements with other note-taking apps, like Evernote or Note Everything. It supports voice as well as text, makes sharing notes easy, can quickly turn any note into a checklist, and supports widgets to get your notes on your home screen. None of that is super-new, but for its part, Keep packs a simple user interface that’s also easy to read and deal with.
The big boon to Google Keep is that it links your Google account, making it easy to access your notes across multiple devices and maintain them. Of course, Evernote can do the same thing, but Google Keep might be more convenient if you’re an avid Google user. It comes down to personal preference, but if you need a note-taking app, you could definitely do worse.
Snag a smartphone (or tablet)
In order to get the most out of Google Keep, however, you’re going to need an Android mobile device. That’s the easy part, really, since you can get one pretty much anywhere: Walmart and Target both carry Android devices of various stripes, and you can get as much as 3 percent cash back at each one; Best Buy offers 2 percent. You can also get as much as $100 cash back from AT&T and $30 from Sprint.
Even better: Google Keep is completely free.
