Glitz and Gold blogger dishes on pattern mixing and accessories
Kati Nickl has a thing for gold and fashion. That’s why she started Glitz and Gold. She has a wonderful definition of personal style, and with the guest bloggers, hair and makeup tips, and all around fun on her blog, this is every girlie girls dream blog. Meet Kati …
Where I’m based: Salt Lake City
How long I’ve been blogging: I have been blogging for a little over six months now — and loving it!
Blog/business basics: My blog focuses on fashion but I like to throw in some more personal posts here and there so my readers can get to know me in other ways. I just graduated and my husband is still going to school so sometimes I can’t always buy all the clothes I want (okay, I will never be able to buy all of the clothes I want), so I try to teach others ways that they can expand the options in their closet with what they already own.
What do you enjoy most about blogging? Something I have enjoyed about blogging since I have started is meeting and getting to know so many other bloggers out there with the same passion and interests — you connect instantly! It is so much fun to do collaborations and giveaways with other bloggers because you really do meet so many great people. Another thing I really enjoy is just the fulfillment and satisfaction I get from doing it. My blog is seriously like my “baby” — it is so much fun to see it grow!
Guilty pleasure: Definitely chocolate, and the TV series Mistresses!
Last thing I bought: The last thing I bought were my Vince Camuto leopard booties from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. I can’t wait for Fall so I can actually wear them. Summer weather in Utah and booties don’t mix very well.
I have to admit, I have expensive taste, but I will never buy anything from J.Crew or J. Crew Factory for full price. They are always doing some sort of promotion so I always wait for the sales. I scored my Polka Dot blazer from J.Crew (styled here) for $40, originally $188, because I waited for the perfect sale.
Who are your style icons? Blake Lively — so classy!
What’s your favorite pattern combination? I love this new trend of pattern mixing. I notice myself doing it daily, even if it is just adding shoes with a different pattern. My current fav is mixing florals and stripes. I have found that a lot of people are scared to mix patterns because sometimes it can be a little much — a very safe and subtle way to mix patterns are with accessories. You can find some of my pattern mixing posts here and here.
Do you have a most beloved gold piece in your closet or jewelry box? You will find my most beloved gold piece in my jewelry box — my gold Michael Kors watch. I love It so much that I don’t want to send it in to get dipped and a diamond replaced because that means I would have to go without it for a couple of weeks (separation anxiety). I wear it almost every day paired with a gold bracelet. I am all about gold jewelry, obviously.
What’s your definition of personal style? One of my favorite sayings is “If you like it, wear it.” I think a lot of us get caught up in the “What is in style?” that we limit ourselves and we don’t express ourselves. Personal style, to me, is all about expressing yourself through what you wear and truly wearing what you want to wear, because you like it!
