Ladies in Navy blogger loves style, recipes and Cheetos
Kelsey Wilburn is the woman behind Ladies in Navy, a blog that chronicles her stylish journey through life. She is budget conscious and has learned the ins-and-outs of how to stretch a dollar when it comes to her wardrobe. Not only does she work full time and update her blog daily, she even makes homemade sushi. Impressed? Us too. Meet Kelsey …
Where I’m based: Tacoma, Wash. — but moving soon to Portland, Ore.
How long I’ve been blogging: I have been blogging for my whole life. I started writing online when I was in middle school and had a stint with Tumblr, a wine blog and have been blogging at Ladies in Navy for one year (almost exactly)!
Blog/business basics: I blog about my life and style, with a heavy emphasis on style. I add in a few recipes here and there, some inspiration and jaunts with my boyfriend and cat.
Guilty pleasure: My food guilty pleasure is Cheetos and my life guilty pleasure is bad reality TV like The Bachelorette. Bad news for the waistline and brain, but so fun!
Last thing I bought: I bought a little white eyelet dress — fit and flare — from TJ Maxx! I love it for easy summer picnics, barbecues and even work.
Fav stores: I frequent TJ Maxx, H&M and the Gap but spend a lot of time browsing J. Crew and Anthropologie online. My budget just doesn’t quite work with their regular priced items, so a lot of copy-catting and drooling go on, but not a lot of purchasing.
What’s your process of getting dressed in the morning? I usually stare into the depths of my closet until something jumps out at me! Because I blog, I am always looking for a new way to remix an outfit or an item, so usually it’s: what can pair well with x, y or z. Then I try on about three outfits/belt/shoe combos until the look is just right. My boyfriend sleepily approves (or disapproves) and off I go!
What item do you find yourself wearing the most from you closet? I wear my The Limited faux leather motorcycle jacket, my Paige Denim jeans, and a pink pleated skirt very frequently. On hot weather days, I’m usually in jean shorts or my neon printed shorts from the Gap — versatile and easy.
How do you juggle your day job, your blog, your boyfriend and your life in general? I have a schedule. I blog in the morning before getting ready for work for about an hour. When I get home from work, I try to get caught up on blogging, get outfit photos taken and then take a break to watch TV and eat dinner with my boyfriend. Before bed, it’s one last blogging go, I read other blogs and get things set up for my nightly post. It’s difficult to manage full-time blogging with full-time working, but the key is a schedule.
Heels or flats? I know they’ll wreck my feet, but heels, heels, heels.
