Last-minute gift for Mom? Cheers to a wine and travel trip
By Aimee Heckel
Your mom works hard. Harder than you can even imagine. You didn’t think those bills got paid, those floors got mopped and those cupboards got filled all by themselves, did you?
Your mom deserves a chance to relax. Really relax. And what better way than combining two extremely relaxing and fun hobbies into one?
A wine and travel trip would definitely make the top Mother’s Day gift on many mama’s lists. So hop online tonight and book her the experience she so deserves.
Here are four of our favorite wine travel ideas for that sweet mom of yours:
1. The wines of Washington. California has long been known for being a major wine producer in the United States, but Washington ranks second — and is growing. Tourismandtasting.com reports Washington boasted more than 43,000 vineyard acres last year, with more than 700 licensed wineries putting out 12 million cases. That’s up from only about 45 not long ago.
2. A wine-tasting party in your home town — or somewhere your mom has always wanted to go. Check the local papers and the Web for special Mother’s Day wine events.
Here’s an event in Virginia Beach that looks fun: Moms can sample fruit, cheese, crackers and share wine at a poolside party, complete with bingo, a hayride, a scavenger hunt and an outdoor movie. The event is at an RV park, which is great for traveling moms.
3. Do it big with an international wine club tour. Wine Club Tours creates customized trips to the world’s finest wineries — from river cruises featuring the wine of Provence, to a tour of the Rhine River, to a wine-themed journey down the Danube.
4. Take a wine cruise. Celebrity Cruises offer four different wine cruise destinations: the Eastern Mediterranean, Mediterranean (July 16-28) for $2,511; Alaska (Aug. 16-23) for $1,829; and the Caribbean (Dec. 9-20 for $1,899).
The latter is known as the “Wine Festival At Sea” and is billed as the “ultimate Caribbean wine cruise.” You will visit the Grand Cayman, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Belize and Mexico.
