Practical Savings blogger offers frugal tips on spending less
Practical savings is all about saving money where you can, so it only makes sense that Kelly, from Practical Savings, knows how and where to do just that. Whether you have your own garden, reuse old containers, do DIY projects or clip coupons, Kelly has efficient tips on how to spend less.
Where I’m based: I live in the far northern part of California.
How long I’ve been blogging: I started out blogging about family several years ago but decided I wanted to have a more public blog in 2009. I then started blogging my shopping trips and the deals I found. After a little more than a year of coupon and deal sharing, I decided to start sharing more about ways we save around the home.
Blog basics: After I stopped focusing solely on deals and coupons, I started sharing more homemaking posts – recipes, reusing/repurposing, ways to save around the home, meal planning, crafts and DIY posts. I still share online deals.
Other blogs I love: Money Saving Mom
Guilty pleasure: Coffee. I ♥ Starbucks and coffee of all kinds.
Last thing I bought: A drawer organizer from Amazon.
What are your most useful tips on how to save money? Plan ahead for meal planning, grocery planning or really any kind of purchase. If you plan ahead and stick to your plan, you won’t be running out and paying regular price or buying extras.
What’s the biggest challenge you run into when trying to save money? Time. We’re a family of seven now so it makes shopping a bit more challenging. I really have to plan in advance and we no longer are able to hit all the great sales (thus more online shopping!).
What is the best deal you have ever gotten? I remember walking out of Safeway a couple years ago and saving 96 percent on my bill. It was a small purchase (under 10 items) but it still felt great saving so much on things we would use.
What’s your favorite place to shop? Online: Amazon. Store front: Kohl’s and Target.
Do you ever splurge? Not often but, yes, sometimes we do.
What do you do when you’re not couponing? I love to read. When I’m not making meals, teaching the kids (we homeschool), blogging or planning our next shopping trip, I read. I find it relaxing and love the quiet time.
