Lesley loves: Bona Clara ‘Hello, Sunshine’ Sun Protection
You’ve heard it before, but we’ll say it again: Everyone should wear sunscreen. Like, every day. No excuses.
Not only does it defend your skin against the sun’s powerful rays, but it can make you look younger (read: fewer wrinkles), too. If that doesn’t get you to buy into the idea, I don’t know what will.
But I can understand the complaints from some who say slathering sunscreen on under their makeup makes their face feel greasy — and smells like, well, sunscreen.
In my mind, you have two options. One, use a foundation or tinted moisturizer with SPF included, or, point your curser over to BonaClara.com and order up the brand’s “Hello Sunshine” Sun Protection Fluid, $40.
Billed as an “ultra-light SPF formula that protects against the UVA/UVB rays that cause sunburn, discoloration, cell damage, dryness and premature signs of aging,” this SPF 29 serum is totally oil-free and fragrance-free, is completely non-sticky and goes on so sheer, it feels invisible.
You use the eye dropper-like dispenser to put 10-12 drops in your hand, and apply with your fingertips. That’s it. Then put on your foundation, as usual. No grease. No sunburn. Even on my uber-fair skin. Hello, Sunshine? It was a pleasure to meet you.
One more thing: I just had to share this tip from Bona Clara CEO and founder and skincare expert Jasmina Aganovic: “SPF numbers don’t ‘add up.’ If you apply a moisturizer with an SPF 15 and makeup with SPF 20, you are not at a ‘total’ SPF of 35. You are only at whatever your highest SPF product is. For those with sensitive skin, do not mix SPFs. For example, try not to use a moisturizer with SPF 20, and makeup with SPF 25 on top. The mixing of the SPFs can sometimes be irritating to the skin (for those who are more sensitivity prone).” Who knew?
